Monday Letter 9-26-22

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Happy Monday to you all.  I hope you all got to spend some time at Westfest this weekend, and if you volunteered- THANK YOU. Our magazine sale is in full swing. Please be sure to help your child sell at least 1 magazine so they feel a part of the schoolwide effort. And picture day is tomorrow. Children may wear free dress, just be sure they have clothes and shoes on that will work for PE and recess. I believe all of the ordering information is in the EFC.

Kindergarten reminders:

  • M/T : PE shoes
  • T : picture day and library books
  • W: mass perfect uniform
  • Sell those magazines

Curriculum:

LA:  Our theme is School Rules. Skills taught include identifying beginning sounds, antonyms, nouns for places, predicting as we read, and using interesting words when we write. The new sight words- like, it new phonograms: qu-v

Math: We continue to work on number concept focusing on equal to, greater than, less than and draw a diagram as a problem solving strategy. Please remember to help your child get onto the Happy Numbers site for leveled practice.

Religion: This week’s scripture story tells us the Holy Spirit is always with us and helps us.

Science: Fall- changing of the seasons

Homework:15-20 minutes of practice of previously introduced skills to establish routine for later and build responsibility

Monday: Sight Word Practice (if your child can already read the introduced words, do not skip the practice time! Instead, practice spelling the words, making sentences with the words, and or looking for these words in print) Blue binders should now have 4 words kept in the clear pouch, 2 little books and 2 poems kept on the rings.

  • Cut out new words (like/it)
  • Read and review
  • Play tic-tac-toe! Make tic-tac-toe board, take turns reading the words (include I/ can) if player reads it correctly they may put an x or an o on the board. Have fun!
  • Read through sight word poems- point to the words, use expression

Tuesday: Happy Numbers

  • Student should spend 15-20 minutes independently working

Wednesday: Leveled Reader

  • Please have your child read the book to you multiple times to build fluency
  • Return in plastic bag Thursday morning
